I was surprised to see Larry Bergman is running for a seat on the Atwater City Council. Bergman is the union leader who led the charge against Atwater when the city was reviewing the costs of its Cal-Fire contract.
The tactics in that encounter were not pretty. If elected, it's difficult to see how Bergman can serve two masters. The temptation to support his fellow union members might supercede his obligation to the citizens of Atwater. It is also disturbing that he just moved to Atwater.
The working families of Atwater deserve to have leaders that represent them and them alone, and those leaders at least, should have lived here for more than a few months.
