EL NIDO — A 19-year-old man was killed Thursday morning in a tractor accident at an El Nido dairy, the Merced County Sheriff's Department reported.
The victim has been identified as Oscar Peredia, according to the coroner's office.
The incident was reported at 6:45 a.m. in the 500 block of Washington Ave., according to Deputy Tom MacKenzie, sheriff's spokesman.
The victim was sweeping while his co-worker was driving a tractor nearby.
The driver had the tractor's bucket raised and didn't see the victim in front of him. The victim was struck by the bucket, and the tractor ran over him. He was pronounced dead at the scene, MacKenzie said.
MacKenzie said the driver of the tractor probably won't face charges because the death was accidental.
