Robber threatens clerk, holds up Atwater store

ATWATER -- No one was hurt during an early Monday robbery at the Circle K market in Atwater, police said.

The incident was reported at 2:15 a.m. after a robber entered the 1021 Shaffer Road business with a green bandanna over his hand, as if he were holding a gun, according to Lt. Sam Joseph.

The robber demanded that the clerk open the safe, threatening to "blow his head off," Joseph said.

The clerk said he wasn't able to open the safe, and the robber threatened him again. The clerk told police he handed over a small amount of cash from a register and that the robber then fled.

The robber is described as a Latino man in his early 20s, about 5-feet-8-inches tall, with a medium build. He wore a black bandanna to cover his face and a black hat. Police are asking anyone with information about the robbery to call Adolfo Lomeli at (209) 357-6387 or the department's automated tipline at (209) 357-6390. Tips are kept confidential and callers can remain anonymous.
