Charles Benedict: Sept. 11 letter was wrong

Published: September 25, 2012

It bothers me to encounter such wrongheaded, myopic letter (Sept. 17) titled “It happened on Sept. 11 — Shocking.”

The writer accuses the administration of praising themselves too much for the killing of Bin Laden. I know it wasn’t an important mission, after all, the president said he didn’t really think about him all that much ... wait, that was the previous one, the flight suit wearing president strutting beneath a huge “Mission Accomplished” banner on an aircraft carrier, when in fact the mission had not even begun (and never did finish until recently).

Presumably, the writer is referring to the outfit that started not one but two unfunded wars; one badly mismanaged and virtually abandoned, the second an unnecessary one. It’s pretty obvious why no one from the previous administration (save Condi) was trotted out onstage in Tampa. I for one would have loved to see a clown car disgorge that assortment onto that beautiful mahogany platform, squirting seltzer bottles at each other and ignoring national security alerts tossed at them.
