The Merced Elks 1240 is engaged in the third annual drive to collect almonds for shipment to our deployed troops. Because of the generosity and the cooperation of many hullers and processors we were able to send 8,250 pounds and 7,000 pounds to our troops the past two years. So far, we have a committed pledge of 2,000 pounds. Many of you, especially growers and processors, have the opportunity to help us make this the most successful effort to date. There are in place collection locations at Livingston Farmers Association, Northern Merced Hulling Association, and Cortez Growers Association to receive your almond donations.
In addition we will arrange to pick up your donations and deliver them to the proper place to have them processed for shipment. You can make those arrangements by contacting me via email (enjconr@sbcglobal.net) or calling (209) 357-3764 or (209) 988-2276. We will have the ability to ship the almonds, whatever the amount, into the hands of our deployed freedom defenders.
Previous shipments of almonds to the troops have been received with great joy and appreciation. In view of the bountiful crop that is being gathered we hope that many will contribute to the happiness and joy of our troops. As a parting thought, "An empty pocket on a battle dress uniform (BDU) will hold a pound of almonds."
