The California Highway Patrol shut down about a 1.5-mile stretch of Highway 99 for roughly 15 minutes Tuesday morning while law enforcement searched for a driver who brushed an officer with his car.
About 11 a.m., a CHP officer responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle on Nelson Way in an unincorporated area between Modesto and Ceres, according to Sgt. Ben Moser.
The officer got out of his patrol car and approached the window of a silver Saturn, where he started questioning the driver.
The driver accelerated, sideswiping the officer's legs with the Saturn as he drove away. The officer was not injured, Moser said.
The driver is described as a white man in his 40s, about 5 feet 7 inches tall, and 150 to 175 pounds.
