Sylvia Luzania: Black cats don't bring bad luck

This time of year, we are reminded to keep a watchful eye on our pet black cats. Yesterday, my grandson Ian asked if I thought black cats brought bad luck. I refreshed his memory about a black cat who I raised from a tiny kitten.

"Midnight" was a member of our family for 17 years. He passed away July 10, 2008. I remember how comforting he was.

He could sense when a family member was stressed or depressed. I played "peek-a-boo" with him. I would peek around the corner from where he was and say, "hi boy" and he would actually try to speak. So, to me, a black cat named "Midnight" my dear family member who has passed on, never brought bad luck.

He only brought peace and joy into my life.
