Five For Friday: Prep football matchups

Five For Friday

1. PITMAN (5-0) at BUHACH COLONY (3-2): The two preseason CCC favorites lock horns in the conference opener. The Pride have cruised through a cupcake schedule, outscoring their opponents 257-89. It may take a quarter for Pitman to get accustomed to the Thunder speed. The Pride have been itching to get back on the field since their 36-35 loss to Serra two weeks ago.

2. MERCED (3-2) at TURLOCK (3-2): It seems every week Merced faces a talented quarter. This week it's the Bulldogs' Sean Downs, who can ran or throw. The question will be can Turlock find a way to slow down Merced's potent offense?

3. ATWATER (4-1) at GOLDEN VALLEY (3-2): The interesting matchup here is the Atwater linebackers against Cougars running back Rashawn Vance. The Golden Valley senior has racked up over 500 yards in his last two games. The Falcons have surrendered just 44 points all year.

4. PACHECO (2-0 WAC, 4-2) at CENTRAL CATHOLIC (2-0, 4-2): Easily the Panthers' biggest game in school history. Paul Parks has been running strong for Pacheco. Can the Panthers' defense slow down Ray Lomas and the Raiders rushing attack?

5. LE GRAND (2-0 SL, 4-1) at WATERFORD (2-0, 4-1): This game will likely decide the Southern League champoinship. The Bulldogs defense will try to contain Wildcats running back Dylan Gonzales.
