Writing workshop set

LIVINGSTON -- The Livingston Recreation Department and local writer Cynthia Pinto will hold an open house and workshop at 7 p.m. Thursday in the City Council chamber, 1416 C St. Call (209) 394-8830.

FFA Fall Plant Sale

ATWATER -- The annual Atwater FFA Fall Plant Sale will be held Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Atwater High School Agriculture Department. Call (209) 357-6025 or go to for details.

Homecoming parade

ATWATER -- The Atwater High School's homecoming parade will start at 3:30 p.m. Friday at Foster Freeze and proceed down Winton Way to Fruitland Avenue. The football game will start at 5:15 p.m., and the king and queen will be announced at halftime. Call (209) 357-6019.

Symphony fund-raiser

The Merced Symphony will hold its Music and Merriment fund-raiser from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the home of Richard and Mary Miller, UC Merced vice chancellor. Tickets are $50, and include hors d'oeuvres and entertainment. For more information and directions, call (209) 383-3277.

All invited to service

Unitarian Universalists of Merced is welcoming the public to its service at 4 p.m. Sunday at 305 W. 26th St. The guest speaker will be David Hetland, who will discuss prison ministry. Children are welcome. There will be refreshments afterward.

Professor's exhibition

Merced College will present an exhibition of work by Professor Jamey Brzezinski through Oct. 19. Gallery hours are noon to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 6 to 9 p.m. Thursdays. For more information, call (209) 417-7917.
