The city of Atwater is in big financial trouble. We have attended several City Council meetings hoping to learn about the cause of the problem and the plan to get the city back on a sound financial standing. The council members seem to be unwilling to inform the public about the problem.
My feeling is the citizens of Atwater deserve an explanation. We’ve been patient, but nothing is being stated either about the cause of the problem or the council’s proposed solution.
Many people in the community, including myself, would be happy to support a small sales tax increase for public safety as a partial solution to the problem. However, I feel that it is time for the district attorney or the grand jury to investigate the problem and take appropriate action.
