Theodore Brodalski: Where buck stops

Planning Commissioner Fred Warchol has appointed himself as the official source of news releases for Atwater. He continues to trash past City Manager Kathy Kively for finance problems that started before she took the job. He has now singled out Mayor Joan Faul for lack of leadership when she has one vote on the council. The record shows starting in March she proposed an increase for water and sanitation rates and again in June, but was opposed by the council. The entire City Council is to blame for our crisis.

I served two terms as a volunteer planning commissioner along with volunteer city councils. No one took a salary to serve and considered it community service. I also volunteered for the Base Community Council and Base Restoration Clean Up Board; Castle Museum; and I served on the Chamber of Commerce and was the president in 1971.

My knowledge is the City Council receives the income and authorizes the expenditures. Managers and financial officers have no vote.

The buck stops at the council. Warchol is not a volunteer.

THEODORE BRODALSKI Atwater
