Delhi -- A pedestrian was killed early Wednesday morning by a car on South Golden State Boulevard, south of Griffith Avenue, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The woman has been identified Whitney Manzano, 26, of Turlock.
The crash was reported at 2:27 a.m., north of Delhi. Carlos Desousa, 45, of Delhi was driving a 2005 Mazda in the southbound lane of South Golden State Boulevard at about 55 mph, the CHP said.
Manzano walked from the shoulder of the road into the southbound lane, directly in front of Desousa's car, officers said. Desousa applied his brakes, but was unable to avoid hitting the woman, according to the CHP.
The right front side of the Mazda struck Manzano, causing the fatal injuries.
Desousa was taken to Emanuel Medical Center in Turlock with minor injuries.
