Merced arts center holds music show tonight

MERCED -- Performers Matt Bauer and Garrett Pierce are scheduled to take the stage at 8 p.m. today in the second-floor gallery of the Merced Multicultural Arts Center.

Pierce and Bauer will appear as part of the Gallery Concert Series, a monthly all-ages concert featuring local, national and international singer-songwriters.

Bauer grew up in Kentucky, and his melodies and banjo style bear the markings of traditional mountain music, bluegrass and early country, but his sound is distinctly contemporary.

Pierce is a Los Angeles native who has spent the past decade in San Francisco and Davis, where he's recorded two full-length CDs. A new one is due out later in October, according to news release about the concert.

The concert series is sponsored by Downtown Life magazine in partnership with the Merced County Arts Council, according to the news release. The magazine and the arts center have presented concerts in the center's Black Box Theater over the past year, attracting performers such as Spirits of the Red City, Emily Jane White, and The French Cassettes.

The center is at 645 W. Main St. Doors for the show open at 7 p.m. Beer and wine are available for people 21 and older.

Tickets for the show are $5 and may be purchased at www.thedlm.com by clicking on "Brown Paper Tickets" or directly at http://dlmpresents.bpt.me.

If space is still available, tickets will be sold at the door.
