Sidiqa Hooker and Sara Davallou helped the UC Merced women's soccer team open the second half with a flurry, each scoring in a seven-minute span as the Golden Bobcats came from behind for a 2-1 victory over Simpson College on Sunday at The Bowl.
Goalkeeper Jasmine Galvez made four saves in the second half for UC Merced, which improved to 5-2 on the season and 2-1 in Golden Gate Conference play.
WATER POLO
SAN MATEO -- Courtney Frampton scored a team-high seven goals and Liz Menefee and Sara Sufuentes each added three as Merced College earned a split at the Big 8/Coast Conference Crossover Tournament with wins over Modesto and Santa Rosa. Allison Ghimenti made 17 saves in the two wins.
VOLLEYBALL
UC Merced fought back from a 2-1 deficit to win its third straight match, 25-20, 22-25, 21-25, 25-20, 15-7 over William Jessup.
CROSS COUNTRY
SANTA CLARA -- The UC Merced women's cross country team finished 17th out of 20 teams at the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational. Sofia Rios paced the Bobcats with a time of 19:39.9, good for 76th place.
The UC men's team finished 13th out of 17 teams. Andrew Pierce finished 38th and Daniel Pena took 57th.

SAN LUIS OBISPO -- JT Lightfoot led the Blue Devils with a tourney-high 13 goals as MC split its four games at the Cuesta Tournament.
