'Cruel and Unusual' screening

Director Sam Banning will present "Cruel and Unusual" at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at 319 W. Main St. The film investigates the repercussions of California's "three strikes" law, including its impact on the criminal justice system and society. Call (682)553-2366.

Knights' Soccer Challenge

LIVINGSTON -- All boys and girls ages 10-14 are invited to participate in the local competition for the 2112 Knights of Columbus Soccer Challenge at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Livingston Sports Complex at the corner of Walnut Avenue and Dwight Way.

Youth Leadership Conference

LOS BANOS -- The League of United Latin American Citizens Council 3072 and the Los Banos Unified School District will present the 14th annual Youth Leadership Conference from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at 200 Ward Road. Asthma Coalition meeting

Halloween Costume Ball

A Halloween Costume Ball will be held from 7:30 p.m. to midnight on Oct. 26 at the Italo-American Lodge, 1351 18th St., Merced. It will include dance performances and a costume contest. Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 at the door. You must be 21 or older to attend.

Saddle club Halloween event

Youth Cheer Clinic planned

Merced High School cheerleaders will host their annual Youth Cheer Clinic from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Oct. 28 in the Merced High gym, 205 W. Olive Ave. Cost is $15. Each participant should bring a sack lunch and wear comfortable clothes. Participants will learn a dance routine and cheer-perform Nov. 2 during the varsity football game.
