Hurricane Sandy has moved north, but the storm on Sunday was still impacting local tides causing ocean-front streets and even some homes to flood.

The beach areas in Broward where mainly affected but also along Miami Beach and Golden Beach and as far north as Palm Beach.

On Miami Beach, there were reports of the flooding of some underground garages at beachfront condos and waves whipping past the shoreline.

In Fort Lauderdale on Sunday, some residents along the beach in the north end of the city requested to be evacuated due to high water on their block.

Sections of A1A along the beach in Broward have flooded and drivers are being rerouted away from the popular beach.

Along Hollywood Beach’s boardwalk, ankle high ocean water has been standing for most of the day on the roadways.

A combination of factors is to blame, the National Weather Service said:

“The flooding is being caused by the up to 10-foot swells from Hurricane Sandy and astronomical high tides due to Sunday’s full moon,’’ said Andrew Kennedy, a meteorologist with the service.

Kennedy said the flooding will continue Sunday night when high tide moves in at between 8 - 9 p.m. in South Florida and again at around 8:45 a.m.- 9:15 a.m. Monday.

South Florida’s temperature will also be dropping as a cold front moves in.

Mondays’ temperatures will be in the low to mid-70s during the day, then drop to the 50s at night.

“Monday night will be our coldest night,’’ Kennedy said.

Highs will be in the mid-70s on Tuesday as the cold front moves away.
