Danetta Cox-Cordova: Demand reform

Every time you toss a political flier in the trash, think of the books, teachers and schools those ads might have bought instead. When your time is wasted by a robocall, think of the visit to a shut-in that might have been. And when you are annoyed by the 100th slick and expensive TV ad, that has no problem feeding us half-truths and un-truths, think of the firefighters and police we could pay, and the roads and bridges we could repair with that money.

Now, most disturbing of all, think of what those Big Buck contributors expect in return from our elected officials for all that money. Yet campaigners are forced to buy into this corrupt system to have any chance at winning.

This is absolutely obscene, and not what Americans fought and died for, now, or 236 years ago.

Campaign reform will not happen until we the people demand it. There are several groups struggling to move this forward. Please let's support them. Do we want it to be even worse four years from now?
