Atwater boy hit by car on Olive Avenue

- rgiwargis@mercedsunstar.com.

ATWATER -- A 9-year-old Atwater boy sustained head injuries after being hit by a car around 3 p.m. Wednesday while crossing the street in the 2000 block of Olive Avenue, Atwater Police Lt. Sam Joseph said.

Police said the boy told his mother he was going to ride his bicycle to a friend's house for Halloween trick-or-treating. He was hit by a Toyota Camry as he crossed from the north side of the street to the south side.

Police haven't released the child's name.

The 64-year-old driver, Chaiu Hwang Scott, wasn't speeding at the time, reported police, who said she was driving alone at about 25 mph when she struck the boy in the westbound lane.

The driver pulled over immediately, Joseph said.

Police said the child was "awake and alert" on the scene but was flown to UC Davis for treatment.
