DEAN WAY: Libertarians denied access to voters

As I watched the election returns, I lamented the demise of our democratic process.

I did not vote for Mitt Romney. I did not vote for President Barack Obama. I blame both Democrats and Republicans for the mess our nation finds itself in.

I also realize that neither party has any answers for the economic morass we are suffering. If the Democrats had the answers, California would be booming; we are not. If Republicans had any answers, then we would yearn for the eight years of "W." We don't.

I have belonged to both parties, but now I'm a registered Libertarian. The only party truly aligned to the principles of our Founding Fathers and individual liberty. The Libertarian party is denied access to the electorate by the Democrat and Republican political machines, and the media are willing accomplices.

The open primary process in California has guaranteed that we will only hear political rhetoric from Democrats and Republicans, and our political discourse will suffer in the future. In essence, we have become a one-party state and nation, with no clear alternative to the current political elites, and no voice in the political process.
