FRESNO -- FRESNO -- An Army veteran with nursing experience is the new director of the VA hospital in Fresno, according to the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Joanne M. Krumberger will oversee a health care system that serves more than 25,000 veterans and has more than 1,050 employees and an operating budget of nearly $174 million.
"We're excited to have her because she has military experience and leadership skills," said Dawn Golik, spokeswoman for the VA hospital in Fresno.
Krumberger has a master's in nursing from Marquette University in Milwaukee and served as a captain in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1988 to 1993.
Most recently, she served as deputy director at the VA hospital in Palo Alto, a health care system that has a budget of $755 million and nearly 3,660 employees, and includes three community living centers and seven outpatient clinics.
Sheila Cullen, director of the VA network that oversees health care systems for veterans in Northern California, Hawaii and Reno, said in a news release that Krumberger's "sound leadership qualities and proven experience" will benefit veterans, employees and volunteers.
