In the Thursday, Nov. 9, Our View titled "Schools still need to budget wisely," you wrongly characterized the Merced County electorate by stating that they "leaned" Republican in most of the races and "they're generally opposed to new and higher taxes."
Fortunately for our state and schools, this is far from true. A quick review of the election results on the Merced County Web page and in the Sun-Star the next day show a majority of Merced County voters in the Democratic tent voting for raising taxes on the most wealthy and protecting union rights. Perhaps, like the Republican Party, the Merced Sun-Star needs to move into the 21st century.
