Coroner IDs second victim of Newman crash

The Merced County Coroner's office identified the second woman killed in Friday's truck crash in Newman as 56-year-old Florentina Zorrosa.

She was in the passenger seat with 22-year-old driver Blanca Juarez Flores when the pickup they were in struck a tree at River and Kelley roads, the California Highway Patrol reported. Both women, Winton residents, were confirmed dead at the scene.

The accident happened after the pickup went off the road for unknown reasons, according to officer Jason Schoonhoven of the Atwater CHP office. Officers responded to a call about 8:46 a.m. that a vehicle crashed into a tree and caught fire.

A third woman in the left rear passenger seat was flown to a Modesto area hospital. Her condition was unknown, but officers at the scene said her injuries didn't appear to be life-threatening.
