BOWLING: Rolling a gobbler might win you a turkey

This Friday, McHenry Bowl in Modesto will host its annual Senior No-Tap Turkey Shoot, where bowlers can win a turkey by knocking down a colored head pin with a strike.

The Shoot is a nine-pin no-tap tournament. The event kicks off with a potluck lunch at noon and sign-ups starting at 12:30 p.m. Bowling beings at 1. Entry fee is only $15, and it will get you into a high-game pot for men and women paid out at the end of the tourney.

League Highlights

Michael Bayer, a new bowler rolling in his first-ever league, was jumping with excitement after rolling his first 200 -- a 201 in the Bellevue Seniors. ... Julie Egleston had her first 600 series with our association, a 623 in the Nisei League with a 233. ... Caren Thompson was on fire with games of 198, 233 and 247 for a 678 in Commercial Classic. Nevora Nush picked up the 4-6-10 split.

San Joaquin Bowling Club

In the one-day handicap singles tournament held recently at Freeway Lanes in Selma, Mark Bourdase won his third career club title. Bourdase rolled a 233 in his last game to catapult ahead of Kevin Kwok and Ryan Sziraki. Atwater's Sziraki finished in second place.

Next up for the club is a handicap trio event at K.C. Bowl in Hanford Saturday. The first squad kicks off at 11 a.m., and is limited to 24 teams. The club is adding $500 to the prize fund.

Cal-State Seniors

Marie Herrera is in the top 25 in unofficial results for the B Singles Division of 43rd Cal-State Senior Championships being held in Modesto. The tournament ends this weekend. Fresno and Clovis will host next year's Senior Championship at Sierra Lanes and Rodeo Lanes.

Never Too Old

You're never too old to roll a few great games, as Bill Dargan of Spring Hill, Fla., proved recently. Dargan, who averages 183, was rolling in the Monday Night Men's League at Spring Hill Lanes when he rattled off games of 257, 267, and a 300 for a super 824, impressive for any bowler.

Dargan's previous high game and series was 299 and 700, respectively. Oh, by the way, Dargan is 77.

On Tap

The Merced/Atwater Women's 500 Club will host its annual Holiday Doubles at Bellevue Bowl on Dec. 9. Doubles must consist of a local 500 Club member and guest, man or woman. Entry fee is $22 per person, and the tournament will follow regulations bowling with handicap and is certified by the USBC.

Mark your calendars.
