MERCED — The Merced County Fair has a new logo for its 2013 festivities aimed at honoring veterans.
Carlos Lupian, who works as a printing technician in the print shop at the Merced County Office of Education, beat out designs from 77 other contestants. The designs were judged by the fair's Board of Directors, according to Diane Conway, the fair's marketing manager.
The design will be used on posters, ads, banners, T-shirts, schedules, and the fair's Web site and Facebook page.
Lupian will be awarded $500 for his winning design, as well as a pair of season passes to the five-day fair that runs from June 12 to June 16, according to Conway.
The design plays off the slogan "Thank you veterans." Alongside the slogan are illustrations of fireworks and the fair's Ferris wheel.
The second-place logo design came from Simrun Lallria, a junior at Livingston High School who entered the contest as a project in her digital media class.
The third-place design was submitted by Julie Rivard, who teaches art at Merced High School. Rivard has designed several of the fair's past logos. Lallria and Rivard will each get a pair of season passes to the fair.
