Senior citizens are invited to attend a free driver safety education class offered by the Merced area California Highway Patrol.
The class is about two hours long and will be held 6 p.m. Dec. 4 at the Merced CHP office at 1500 Bell Drive in Atwater, according to officer John Patterson.
Those 60 and older are invited to hear officers discuss rules of the road, adjusting to normal age-related physical changes, tuning up driving skills and myths and facts regarding senior drivers.
There's no cost for the class, but space is limited. To reserve a spot in the class, contact Officer John Patterson at (209) 356-2958.
In other CHP news, officers will be patrolling in greater numbers during the Thanksgiving holiday Maximum Enforcement Period, which begins 6 p.m. Wednesday and ends at 11:59 p.m. Sunday, according to a CHP press release.
During that period, officers will be looking for drivers who are a danger to themselves or other drivers.
According to the CHP, crashes increased during last year's Thanksgiving holiday travel period. Thirty-two people were killed because of crashes last year, a 52 percent increase compared with 2010.
