PORTOLA VALLEY — The run came to an end for the Le Grand High volleyball team on Tuesday night.
Priory High ended the Bulldogs season with a 25-23, 25-13, 27-25 win in the first round of the Northern California Division 5 playoffs.
However, Le Grand coach Gia Pridell felt a lot better about her team's performance than she did in last week's Sac-Joaquin Section championship game.
The Bulldogs (16-8) pushed the Central Coast Section champs.
"We played three times better than we did at U.C. Davis," Pridell said. "If we would have played like this last week we would have been section champions. I'm very proud of my girls. We had a great season. We got a taste of it. Look out next year."
Facing a much taller team, Le Grand leaned on its defense to keep it in the match and the Bulldogs threatened to take the first and third games.
Kinsey Haas led Le Grand with 21 digs. Savanna Barnett paced the offense with 10 kills and three blocks. Setter Melissa Marchini finished with 16 assists.
"They were big at the net," Pridell said. "My hitters had to make a lot of adjustments to get around them or through them. It was a very competitive match.
"Losing that first game took the air out of us. The third game we had nothing to lose. We had fun.
"We had our defense working. We were working great on the court. We didn't have any miscues. They had some really good hitters that put the ball down."
