A newspaper carrier delivering The Bee died early Thanksgiving morning after his car struck a power pole. A passenger in the car was injured.

The accident occurred at about 6:40 a.m. on 14th Avenue between the neighborhoods of Tahoe Park and Tallac Village.

Sacramento police say a blue four-door sedan hit a utility pole in the 5500 block of 14th Avenue. The accident closed the road to cars and pedestrians for several hours because the utility pole required repairs.

Sacramento police spokesman Officer Doug Morse said alcohol was not involved. The speed involved and circumstances of the accident were not available Thursday.

The person killed worked for Metro Media News, one of The Bee's contracted delivery companies, The Bee confirmed.

Morse said that newspapers strewn at the scene indicated the vehicle's occupants were making morning deliveries at the time of the accident.

The injured passenger was taken to a nearby hospital. The other victim died at the scene.

The name of the deceased driver had not been released by the Sacramento County Coroner's Office as of late Thursday.
