Salcido takes 38th at state

Sun-Star staff report

FRESNO -- Ryan Salcido helped lay the foundation for the Pacheco cross country program this year. The senior became the first Panthers athlete to qualify for the CIF State Championships.

Salcido finished 38th in the Division 3 boys race with a time of 16 minutes, 20 seconds on Saturday at Woodward Park in Fresno. Salcido's time was tops for anybody from Merced County.

Salcido was one of two individual boys in the area to qualify for state.

Atwater senior Abraham Alvarado turned in a time of 16:26, which was good for a 64th-place finish in the Division 2 race.

The Livingston boys were the only team to run at state and the Wolves finished 20th in the Division 4 race.
