Robbers strike two recycling centers

Merced County sheriff's detectives are investigating two robberies at recycling centers in Planada and Winton on Monday, according to spokesman Deputy Tom MacKenzie.

The first one happened after noon at a recycling center in the 100 block of Pico Street in Planada, where a man took off with an undisclosed amount of cash after simulating a handgun.

According to MacKenzie, the Latino male drove off in a blue BMW with another person inside. He was wearing a gold-colored jacket and blue shorts.

About 30 minutes later, authorities received a call about a robbery at Santa Fe Drive and Walnut Avenue recycling center in Winton.

During this incident, the robber stole an undisclosed amount of cash.
