MERCED — Police say a Merced man was arrested on suspicion of burglary Wednesday after he tried to take tools and lawn equipment from an apartment complex's maintenance shed.
James Kyreacos, 36, was arrested on suspicion of burglary, possession of stolen property, possession of burglary tools, possession of a methamphetamine pipe, resisting arrest and a felony warrant.
Kyreacos is being held at the Merced County Jail in lieu of $164,500 bail.
Police said they responded to reports of someone breaking into the shed in the 1200 block of Devonwood Drive around 7:45 a.m.
The suspect ran off when officers arrived on the scene, they said.
The man managed to evade officers by jumping the fences of homes across the street, according to police.
Additional officers were called to the area, and the suspect was found hiding in a back yard in the neighborhood.
Officers say they recovered the property taken from the shed after it was dropped by the suspect during the chase.
