I have a really good girlfriend who recently became a client of mine.
I met her about five years ago, and even though more recently we hadn't been in touch, our friendship always continued where we left off whenever we reconnected.
This last time we became reacquainted was due to her cry for help.
She had been struggling with her weight, processed foods and fad diets that caused her to gain weight faster than she even lost it -- and it took her months to gain courage to ask me for help.
Of course, I was absolutely thrilled to step in and even more excited to know that we would be hanging out pretty much every day, whether she liked it or not.
That was a little less than a month ago, and we've continued to work out five to six days a week, cook healthy meals together and rebuild an awesome friendship. It has become so apparent that mentally she is there, which is more important than the physical transformation, so we decided to do a challenge.
On Monday, we started a six-week challenge that will go until January 7, 2013.
Her six-week goal is primarily to lose body fat and inches while improving strength and endurance. My six-week goal is to improve my endurance and be the best example I can throughout this challenge.
This week I challenge you to join us. There is no specific diet or exercise plan to go along with -- it is all about you.
What have you wanted to accomplish in health and fitness?
What do you keep putting off "until Monday?"
The purpose of the six-week challenge is just to motivate you to stop procrastinating when it comes to your health and fitness.
Social networking is huge and growing, and I am excited that I have received messages from people in Merced, Orange County, Ohio and even Australia who have committed to participating in the six-week challenge.
Post pictures and quotes on Facebook and Twitter under #6weekchallenge to keep yourself and others motivated.
Six weeks doesn't sound like a long time, but it is long enough to notice significant results and long enough for people to slack off and get sidetracked -- not this time. This time let's take it to another level.
We are not going to turn a few holidays into holi-months and ruin everything we worked hard for this summer.
Being healthy and fit surpasses anything physical, the journey to get there and the life lessons learned along the way are so priceless and better than any "magic weight-loss pill" can ever be.
When I really started taking my physical fitness to the next level, about five years ago, my biggest motivation were my results. When my clothes started fitting differently and my muscles became more defined is when I really became addicted to the lifestyle -- it gave me what I put into it.
I know my friend is mentally tough. I know she will get through it, and I know she will see results. My goal is that her results will be self-motivating and proof to her and others that hard work pays off.
I really hope that you decide to join us no matter what your goal may be.
