SANTA ANA -- The Merced College women's basketball team just needed a change of scenery.
The Lady Devils entered the Santa Ana Tournament winless, but a trip down south cured what ailed them.
Merced College completed a perfect run through the tournament with a 45-40 victory over Moorpark in the championship game on Saturday.
Rogenee Russell led MC (3-3) with 14 points while Sonji Green added seven points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
Moorpark's Torrey Hill missed a game-tying 3-point try with five seconds left and Green hit a pair of free throws to seal the win and title.
Johnson & Wales 73, UC Merced 45
Leticia Oceguera paced the Golden Bobcats with 15 points, but Johnson & Wales had the game all-but put away at halftime.
Shelby Howard added 12 points in the loss.
MEN'S BASKETBALL
Cal Baptist 86, UC Merced 57
Griffin Alexander scored a team-high 10 points off of the bench and Aki Chambers added nine points, but Cal Baptist got the best of the Bobcats for the second time this season.
