Horse sanctuary holding its annual open house Wayward Ponies' Home in Catheys Valley will host its fourth annual open house on Dec. 18. The horse sanctuary is in need of donations of new items or gift certificates for prizes and a loan of pop-up canopies in case of inclement weather. Rescue mission needs help to help the needy Merced County Rescue Mission will be feeding thousands of people a Christmas dinner. "A traditional dinner will be fed to men, women and children and food and volunteers are needed," according to the group. "We will also be distributing clothes and toys to the needy. Our list of items needed are turkeys, hams, turkey pans, potatoes, canned cranberries, rolls, pies, paper plates, napkins, plastic forks, spoons and knives, stuffing, butter cubes, salad and dressing and salt and pepper packets." Abuse survivors group meets in Merced, Atwater ACE Overcomers, Overcoming the Effects of a Difficult Childhood, meets Mondays at 7 p.m. at Gateway Church, 353 E. Donn Drive, and on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. at Atwater First Church of God, 2100 Fruitland Ave. "If you grew up being physically, sexually or emotionally abused," according to the group, "ACE can help you overcome depression, anxiety and anger caused by these abuses." Farmers market is open; Promenade nears end The Original Merced Certified Farmers Market is open year-round from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturdays at 19th and N streets, rain or shine. The Wednesday Market at the Promenade runs through the second Wednesday of December.
