Barbers and Businesses Giving Back event set

The first annual Barbers and Businesses Giving Back event will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday at 608 W. Main St. There will be free haircuts, food, drinks and raffles.

SPCA Christmas tour planned for Sunday

The Merced Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals will host its annual Christmas Home Tour from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $15 each. There will be singing, gift baskets and baked goods for sale, and a raffle. Call (209) 384-7722 or (209) 723-8953.

Lutheran church to hold Christmas Eve service

The Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church will host a soup supper at 7 p.m. Wednesday and Dec. 19 in celebration of Advent Season, at 1455 E. Yosemite Ave. It also will have a candlelight Christmas Eve service at 4 p.m. on Dec. 24. Call (209) 383-0632.

Atwater veterans group offers programs, benefits

ATWATER -- Atwater Veterans Post 9946 has been serving the needs of veterans and their families for more than 62 years. It provides veterans with various programs and can assist getting any benefits that are connected to their service. Call (209) 358-7724.

Police Activities League card supports programs

ATWATER -- Save Mart offers a S.H.A.R.E.S. card. Shoppers who use the card will allocate 3 percent of the purchase to Atwater Police Activities League programs.

Atwater VFW offers flag disposal, burgers

ATWATER -- The Atwater VFW will properly dispose of any flags that are torn, soiled or just tattered out. Just drop it off at the post, 1390 Broadway, and it will be taken care of. The group also hosts Hamburger Night from 5 to 7 p.m. every Wednesday and provides wheelchairs as well as walkers at no charge to those veterans in need. Call (209) 358-7224.

Merced flea market planned for Saturday

Merced Flea and Farmers Market runs from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. each Saturday behind the fairgrounds, 900 G St. EBT is accepted.
