Mary Cruz: Biotech focus wrong

A quick glance at the new El Capital High, no small feat in Merced County's carbon footprint, and I imagine there are a variety of responses: some folks oohing and awing, some -- maybe the homeowners across the street -- disbelieving and some just plain scratching their heads wondering, 'Where are we going with this and where's the money coming from?' A search on Google reveals that the first order of curriculum for the $100M, state-of-the-art wireless and textbook-less facility is "biotechnology." I have dedicated the past two years of my life studying biotechnology in the United States and its harmful effects on the environment and people.

Biotechnology is not benevolent. There is no dignity in biotechnology.
