Boy, 11, hit by car, flown to hospital

- local@sunstar.com

An 11-year-old boy is listed in stable condition after being struck by a car Monday night in the 1000 block of Loughborough Drive, Merced police reported.

Police were dispatched to the scene shortly after 7 p.m.

Witnesses told police the boy was trying to run across the street when he was struck by a 1991 Honda Accord. The driver, 73-year-old Theresa Noble, said she was driving eastbound on Loughborough Drive when she saw the boy. She told police she swerved the car, trying to avoid hitting him, but was unable to, according to Sgt. Bobby Chapman.

The boy was flown to UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento for treatment. Police say DUI is not a factor in the crash.
