- vpatton@mercedsun-star.com

ATWATER -- Police were on the lookout Wednesday for a gunman who robbed a woman outside a convenience store where she had stopped to get gas Tuesday night.

The robbery was reported about 6:38 p.m. at the Sure Stop Market at 972 Broadway, according to Atwater Police Lt. Samuel Joseph.

The woman had parked her car and walked inside the market to pay in advance for gas. As she exited the store, a man approached her on foot and pulled out a small handgun.

The robber told the woman, "If you give me your wallet, you will not get hurt," according to Joseph.

The robber is described as a white man, about 5-foot-5, with short brown hair. He was wearing dirty jeans and a blue flannel shirt. The woman also told police the robber had yellow, rotting teeth.

Police ask anyone with information about the robber to call (209) 357-6387.
