Caltrans delays Santa Fe road closure

MERCED -- A road closure that was scheduled to begin this week has been postponed, according to California Department of Transportation spokeswoman Angela DaPrato.

Caltrans was planning to close Santa Fe Avenue from east of McKee Road to west of Highway 140 from Wednesday through Saturday from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

According to DaPrato, scheduled roadwork can be delayed because of traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment and other construction-related issues.

In this particular situation, rain and availability of equipment caused the delay.

The work is part of the $22.8 million Highway 140 Bradley Overhead widening project, which began in June 2011, and aims to replace an existing bridge while widening the roadway from two lanes to four.

The road closure may be rescheduled for next week, but DaPrato said that information has not been confirmed.
