Merced City Schools president, clerk to remain on board

- dyawger@mercedsunstar.com

MERCED -- Adam Cox will continue as president of the Merced City School District's Board of Education and Jessica Kazakos remains as board clerk, after actions at Tuesday's business meeting.

Cox and Kazakos were unanimously re-elected to the board leadership positions for a second year.

Cox said he is humbled to continue as board president. He is the executive director of the Builders Exchange of Merced and Mariposa, and was elected to the school board three years ago.

During 2013, Cox said, the district's fiscal problems won't be gone, so the board must still keep an eye on finances and make sure that students are being served.

Trustee Gene Stamm, who ran unopposed for re-election, and Trustee Susan Walsh, whose election challenger withdrew from the race, were sworn in for new terms. Stamm has served about 28 years on the board, in addition to six years on the Merced County Board of Education.

The board's brief meeting included an update on student attendance and a review of the district's first interim budget report.
