Parent-teacher president accused of embezzlement

The president of a parent-teacher association at Gracey School was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of embezzling money from the organization.

Andrea Solima, 35, turned herself into police and eventually told detectives she took the money to pay her bills, said Lt. Tom Trindad of the Merced Police Department.

Administrators at Gracey School first became suspicious when they noticed discrepancies in the parent-teacher fund, Trindad said.

After the incident was reported to police, Detective Allen Adrian found that $6,939.15 was misappropriated from the fund, Trindad said. After the investigation, Adrian told Solima's husband that she needed to turn herself in or a warrant issued for her arrest.

The Merced Police Department is asking anyone with information about this incident to contact Adrian at (209) 385-4731 or the department's tip line at (209) 385-4725.

The public can also text a tip to TIP411 (847411) using "comvip" as the first word in the text message.
