Law enforcement agencies in Merced County are taking part in the "Avoid the 11" campaign to cut down on those who drive under the influence.
Merced, Atwater, Los Banos, Livingston and Gustine are among the cities taking part in the effort, which includes DUI checkpoints, saturation patrols and other missions aimed at reducing driving under the influence.
The checkpoints and saturation patrols will take place throughout the county and continue through Dec. 31, with officers targeting those who are driving under the influence during the holiday season.
Funding for the campaign is provided by the state.
