This season serves us by awakening our spiritual sense. The spiritual sense is part of our nature. We sometimes don't recognize that as part of who we are. In a report by the Sun-Star, Paul Nussbaum recognized it when he spoke at Golden Valley High recently. It was so good to see spirituality treated as a part of man's nature -- who we are. He zeroed in on nutrition, physical activity, spirituality, socialization, and mental stimulation as aspects of a healthy lifestyle. He said these five aspects are co-equal in maintaining a healthy brain. He urged students to embrace spirituality, including praying daily, going regularly to a house of worship, learning relaxation procedures and how to meditate. One student thought these will be things people will think about in the future. He is right. It is certainly worthwhile to lead a healthy life. One which we were meant to live.
So what is spirituality? We participate in the profound mystery of our being, and the being of a higher power. When we communicate and participate in prayer, we become spiritual people.
Listen to the words of our holiday music. They are worth singing about! The season will bring good health to our lives when we nurture our spiritual lives.
