Turlock boy, 9, killed in accident on I-15

McClatchy Newspapers

AFTON -- A 9-year-old Turlock boy was killed in a car accident Sunday afternoon on Interstate 15 in the Mojave Desert, according to the California Highway Patrol.

At about 12:55 p.m., the driver of a white 1997 Ford Explorer carrying five passengers made an abrupt turn to the left and lost control of the vehicle south of Afton Road. The vehicle slid a short distance, then overturned several times, CHP said.

The 9-year-old boy was seated in the left rear and partially ejected as a result, suffering fatal head trauma, according to a news release. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The vehicle's other occupants suffered moderate injuries and were transported to Loma Linda University Medical Center and Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton for treatment.

The CHP's Barstow station was investigating the accident.
