Jenny Gallaher: Front-page gun article offensive

I was saddened and shocked to see what amounted to a free advertisement for a local gun shop on the front page of the Dec. 21 Sun-Star. I'm referring to the article with the headline "Gun shops doing brisk business."

I find the timing of this article offensive and insensitive. I think most of us are in shock about the recent school shooting in Connecticut. This article, or any article, promoting the sale of guns at this time (or any time) is totally inappropriate.

If a similar tragedy had happened in our community, would your paper be inclined to print such an article? My feelings are that all life is precious and it is especially heinous when someone purposely takes the lives of innocent children.

If there had not been the easy access to firearms in the home of the young man who perpetrated this horrendous crime, chances are the crime may not have been committed.
