Stabbings, shooting mar Turlock new year

TURLOCK -- The new year got off to a violent start here, with three stabbings and a drive-by shooting that hurt no one but produced two arrests.

Police recovered a knife in the 1500 block of Bluethroat Drive but haven't determined why three men from the Turlock area were stabbed about 1 a.m. at a party attended by 30 to 40 people.

A 22-year-old man with life-threatening wounds was airlifted to a hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery. He remained in intensive care Tuesday evening, said Sgt. Russ Holeman.

A 19-year-old man and another of unknown age also were stabbed, and one was hospitalized.

At 10:20 a.m., a 22-year-old Turlock man reported that he had been shot at as a car passed him while he was walking near Columbia and South Orange streets. Officers stopped a vehicle nearby and the victim identified the shooter, Holeman said.
