Livingston police arrest teens after finding gun in trash

LIVINGSTON -- Two teenagers were arrested Monday in connection with the discovery of a gun in a trash can in Memorial Park, police reported.

Damian Caprio, 19, and a 17-year-old were arrested after the weapon was found on the grounds of the park at Park and Main streets, according to Sgt. Ray Fong.

The suspects were seen standing around the restroom in the park, Fong said, by an officer who identified them both as active gang members.

The officer checked the women's restroom in the area where the pair had been standing and discovered the loaded pistol in the empty trash can. Fong said the gun was warm to the touch, as if it had been handled recently.

Caprio was booked into the Merced County Jail on suspicion of possessing a loaded firearm, possession of a stolen firearm and gang crimes. The juvenile was booked on suspicion of violating juvenile probation and gang crimes.
