At least two suspects remain at large following an armed robbery in Elk Grove.
Elk Grove police spokesman Officer Christopher Trim said Elk Grove and Sacramento police ended their search of an area northwest of the Florin Road and Tamoshanter Way intersection about 6 p.m. The suspects had been believed to be in the area after their vehicle crashed and they ran off on foot following a police pursuit.
Trim said a woman was walking with friends in the 7500 block of Laguna Boulevard in Elk Grove about 3:40 p.m. when a black Impala with three men inside drove up.
One man jumped out of the car and tried to grab a chain that the woman was wearing. When she and her friends tried to fight off the man, another man got out of the vehicle and brandished a handgun. Passersby came to the women's aid, the men got back into the vehicle and drove away.
Trim said the woman spotted a Sacramento County sheriff's deputy at a nearby restaurant and he reported the incident to Elk Grove police.
An Elk Grove officer got on I-5 and spotted what appeared to be the suspects' vehicle ahead of him. He attempted to pull over the vehicle, but the driver failed to yield and a pursuit began. Trim said the vehicle exited on Florin Road and sped eastbound. As it approached Tamoshanter Way, the Impala collided with another vehicle and crashed into a landscaped median. Trim said the occupants then got out of the vehicle and took off on foot.
He said one person was detained but has not been arrested.
A perimeter was set up in the area of the Florin Road and Tamoshanter intersection. He said at least one of the individuals still at large is believed to be armed.
