MERCED -- The Art Kamangar Center at the Merced Theatre will kick off a month filled with music and performances on Saturday, with award-winning Elvis Presley tribute artist Lloyd Aron Douglas taking center stage to perform several of "The King's hits.
Called "Image of the King," the performance by Douglas is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. Saturday.
The event will include a display of an exact replica of Elvis' Harley-Davidson, along with other pieces of similar memorabilia, according to the Merced Theatre's website.
According to a press release, when he's not singing the hits of Elvis, Douglas is a mounted police officer in San Francisco. He also trains horses and other police officers.
Prior to his performance career, Douglas' lieutenant and others remarked he resembled Elvis. Eventually Douglas would start a his career as an Elvis Tribute Artist, taking on the stage name "Totally Elvis," according to the press release.
Douglas brings to the stage not only a dazzling performance, but his wardrobe of dynamic costumes, from the famous gold lame jacket to the unforgettable jump suits, which are tailor-made by Janet Tegels at Professional Costumes in Tennessee, following Elvis' original patterns and intricate details of rhinestones and elaborate embroidery.
Douglas' guitars are perfect replicas from Elvis' collection, according to the release. Tickets to Saturday's event are $29-39.
Douglas' performance is one of many January events scheduled at the Merced Theatre. On Friday, Jan. 25 the Merced Symphony will perform its Winter Pops Concert at the theatre. The symphony is scheduled to perform popular favorites from Harry Potter, Les Miserables and Phantom of the Opera, according to the Merced Theatre's website.
The symphony's reception starts at 6:30 p.m. and the show starts at 7:30 p.m.
In addition, Los Angeles rock band Fishbone is scheduled to perform at the theatre on Saturday, Jan. 26. Scheduled to appear with Fishbone will be reggae star Anthony B, in addition to bands Mystic Roots and Gearbox.
