Santa Fe Avenue road closure postponed

MERCED -- Caltrans announced on Thursday its plan to postpone a full road closure on Santa Fe Avenue because of the weather.

The closure would have been on Santa Fe Avenue from east of McKee Avenue to just west of State Route 140, originally scheduled through Friday.

According to Caltrans spokeswoman Angela DaPrato, this work is part of the $22.8 million Highway 140 Bradley Overhead Widening Project, which began in June of 2011.

The project, which begins at Marthella Avenue and ends just east of Santa Fe Avenue, will replace an aging bridge.

DaPrato said the project will also widen the roadway along SR-140 from two lanes to four lanes.

Operational improvements will include realigning a portion of two major streets and installing two new traffic signal lights.
