A suspect wanted on auto theft and drug charges is in custody after Atwater police received a tip from the Merced County Crime Stoppers this week.
Clyde Mau, 27, was taken into custody shortly before 8 p.m. Monday after officer David Walker responded to a residence in the 2400 block of Olive Avenue, according to Lt. Sam Joseph.
The tip from Crime Stoppers provided the officer with the suspect's whereabouts.
Mau had two outstanding felony warrants for his arrest.
Walker had searched for the suspect previously, when the officer was a member of the police department's special crimes unit, before the unit was ended because of budgetary reasons, Joseph said.
Walker and his fellow officers found Mau at the home, and he was taken into custody without incident.
Mau was found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia and less than an ounce of marijuana, police said.
Two others at the scene were cited and released for marijuana possession, police said.
Mau was booked at the Merced County Jail.
